Who are we?
CMG Workers United is a group of engaged and active members from across Canadian Media Guild branches who love our union and want it to better represent our members.
We believe our union can be stronger, more united, more transparent and, most importantly, member-led.
Inspired by the traditions of reform of grassroots caucuses who revolutionized unions including ACTRA, the Chicago Teachers Union and United Auto Workers, we decided to unite to build a better CMG.
CMG Workers United is running a diverse and progressive slate of candidates in the upcoming elections who are united in their vision to make CMG bigger, stronger and more transparent and democratic. You can view our candidates for the 2025 elections here.
What are our core values?
A union is not a service you subscribe to. It is a group of colleagues who fight to make our lives better. We support progressive, grassroots unionism that prioritizes the needs of rank-and-file members. We believe union leaders should be accountable to members and that with an engaged membership, we will be able to push for better working conditions and rally to protect our industry as a whole.
What do we want for the Canadian Media Guild?
The CMG can be an organization for change and one that gives people hope for their futures. We can grow and plan for that better day. Our union has been slowly losing members and needs to find a path back to strength.
We believe in a union where branches have the support of their national leadership, and members' voices are heard.
How will we do it?
Read our full policy platform here. In short, we want to improve member engagement at all branches; open and transparent communication from the union; and be fiscally responsible while building a better and stronger union.
